Heather’s 1 of 1 Studio Edit is a weekly release of singular, one-of-a-kind faux arrangements, each designed and made just once in our studio. This series allows Heather the freedom to express herself creatively, designing artistic, sculptural pieces guided by intuition, material, and moment — without repetition or constraint. Each arrangement is created for 'one space only'. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
 
Inspiration
This arrangement began with the vessel itself — the 'Medusa' vase by '101 Copenhagen', whose distinctive form set the direction for the entire design. Its elevated, architectural shape suggested a composition that would emphasise line, height, and negative space. Dark, matte, and elevated on a distinctive multi leg-like base reinforced the contemporary character of the design. The design draws further inspiration from the warmth and richness of autumn colour and the sculptural beauty of bare winter trees. The interplay of strong lines and soft velvety petals creates a composition that gives the piece a sense of both strength and elegance.
 
Design Intent
The design plays with contrast — weight and space, grounded and reaching. The dense floral base creates a visual anchor, while the tall branching elements draw the eye upward, giving the arrangement a sense of expansion and breath. The restrained palette of deep reds and burgundy keeps the composition cohesive and dramatic, allowing form and texture to take centre stage.
 
The Details
A collar of deep wine-coloured faux Night Hawk dahlias arranged densely around the vessel’s opening, forming a lush focal point at the base of the design. Their velvety burgundy petals create a rich, almost luminous depth of colour. Delicate strands of trailing burgundy berry fall gently downward, introducing movement and softening the composition. Rising above, the slender red dogwood branches extend upward in an airy, organic framework, creating rhythm and vertical height while allowing light and negative space to move between the lines.
 
Where It Works Best
This arrangement is most effective when it has room to breathe and can be viewed up close and from a distance. It works beautifully centred on a long console table against a simple wall, as photographed, or would work beautifully on a pedestal where it can be viewed at all angles, floating in a foyer as a sculptural botanical installation where its height and vertical movement can be appreciated.
