Heather’s 1 of 1 Studio Edit is a weekly release of singular, one-of-a-kind faux arrangements, each designed and made just once in our studio. This series allows Heather the freedom to express herself creatively, designing artistic, sculptural pieces guided by intuition, material, and moment — without repetition or constraint. Each arrangement is created for 'one space only'. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
 
Inspiration
I’ve been reflecting on where creative ideas truly come from, and I keep returning to the thought that we build a visual library, a collection of treasures we discover and store. Beautiful packaging, rich luscious fabrics, pottery, light bouncing over ripples in a stream, paintings, a worn wooden chair and the history wrapped around  it. Some influences are clear, others are absorbed so subtly we hardly notice. There was no preconceived idea behind this arrangement, it began intuitively, simply responding to the materials at hand and allowing the piece to unfold. It is always interesting to see what eventuates and then translate where the inspiration may have originated. I hope you like it! 
 
Design Intent
There is an eastern influence with the sense of restraint and intention in the placement of stems, reminiscent of Ikebana where space is as important as form, and each element is considered. At the same time, I can see the western influence in the paintings of artist Piet Mondrian, in the bold blocks of colour and structure created through line and balance. Not in a literal sense, but in the way the eye is guided, the composition is resolved with tension and placement.
 
The Details
The deep red crimson berries nestled in velvet moss, ground this arrangement. Midori green anthuriums are the strength of the silhouette, the balance between the raw texture of the stone vessel, the bold, limited and saturated colour palette add contrast and energy. The berries enhance the red edged margins of the scrappy flax foliage.
 
Where It Works Best
This arrangement brings a permanent sense of growth and vitality to any room. This piece lends itself beautifully to spaces where it can be appreciated from multiple angles, a console, a generous coffee table, a kitchen island, an entry setting where its sculptural form can create an immediate sense of arrival. It works particularly well in interiors that balance natural materials with refined finishes, where its bold colour can both anchor and elevate the surrounding space.
